I know it’s not a food recipe…but it uses a food grade ingredient and this recipe shocked me with how awesome it is, so I figured I’d share it here! Let me know what you think of it! And I always love to hear how people tweak the recipes, so share any comments you have or any changes you may have made!
Looks a tad bit weird, but it is fantastic! Keeps your hands and body feeling soft and hydrated extra long! And to top it off, this is one of the most simple “recipes” I’ve ever found for this sort of thing. It’s wonderful. Coconut oil is a fantastic product in general, not only is it nutritious, it’s also amazing on your skin. You don’t need to be some fancy soap or lotion maker to do this, all you need is the ingredients and a mixer.
1 cup coconut oil. (do NOT heat or melt in any way, it must be solid)
1 teaspoon Vitamin E Oil
A few drops of your choice of essential oils, or a combination of oils.
A few drops of food coloring/soap coloring for color.
Combine all the above ingredients into a mixing bowl. I find that Kitchen Aid Mixers are amazing for this, but I know not everyone has one, so just a strong mixing bowl. Begin mixing on low speed to start, and increase until high. Stop every minute or two and scrape the sides of the bowl down to the middle so that everything is getting whipped evenly. You will be able to see the hard coconut oil chunks begin to whip up into a creamed butter consistency. Keep mixing on high for about 10 minutes, still scraping the bowl as needed. There should be no chunks of coconut oil when it is finished.
When you are done mixing it, put into the jar or container of your choice. I use mini canning jars, and they work wonderful. You can find them at most hobby shops or even grocery stores, and they are typically quite cheap. You can then label them and store them for up to a year! I usually label them with exactly what they are and the date I made it on. These make wonderful gifts for family and friends, just tie a little bow around it and you’re all set! Works fabulous.
